We are Jonathan and Fay Leech, the co-founders and owners of Soothe Ocular Spa with over 50 years of optical experience between us.
Jonathan
I qualified as an Optometrist in 1992 and for 30 years have worked in a high street practice in Newcastle city centre, I still work there 3 days a week. Dry Eye Disease has always been a difficult problem to manage and in the last few years it has become increasingly obvious that it is affecting more people at a younger age. Increasing screen use, indoor environments and working from home are certainly factors in this. New technology for diagnosing and treating dry eye is now available and we are both convinced that more can be done to help those suffering with long term dry eye issues.
Fay
Until I moved to Newcastle from the Midlands in 2017 I co-owned an optical practice for over 20 years , qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in 2009. During that time I became increasingly concerned at the rising numbers of patients with dry eye disease and the limited real relief we could offer them. Over the years things have changed - new treatments, therapies and diagnostic tools have come onto the market but are not readily available to all.

In 2022 we began work on developing Soothe Ocular Spa to make blepharitis and dry eye disease assessment, management and treatment more accessible and more affordable. We have invested in specialist equipment that most optical practices do not have access to and the result is we are very excited to open our first Spa Clinic in the heart of Gosforth.
