I already have a diagnosis, why do I need to book an initial assessment?

In order to give you the best advice, and recommend the correct treatment for you, it is important that we have comprehensive, up to date, information about your dry eyes.  We need to have a baseline assessment, in metrics that are common to all our clients, in order to get a working diagnosis and track your progress.

What is MGD?

MGD, or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, is one of the causes of Dry Eye Disease. 

What does dry eye feel like?

Dry eye can feel hot, burny, gritty, stingy, itchy, as if you have something in your eye, or even watery, depending upon the type of dry eye that you have.

Do your eyes dry out as you age?

Yes, it is more likely that your eyes will feel drier as you age, due to hormone changes and physical changes to the structures of the eye.

Can dry eye heal on its own?

It is unlikely that dry eye will improve without you making changes to your environment, diet, stress management and ocular hygiene routines. It is a chronic condition that needs to be managed, rather than healed.

How do you fix dry eyes?

Relief for dry eyes starts with knowing what type of dry eye you have and then following a regular routine to improve how they feel; in addition you may need professional treatments to kickstart your recovery process.

What is the main cause of dry eyes?

Meibomian gland dysfunction occurs in over 85% of dry eye disease; this is when the glands in the eyelids do not produce enough of the oily layer of the tear film, or what they do produce is of poor quality, leading to inflammation of eyelids and evaporation of tears.
