What is Lacrifill?
Lacrifill is a form of lacrimal occlusion, whereby a soft, preservative free, sodium hyaluronate gel is gently inserted into the lower tube that drains tears away from the surface of your eye. This keeps your natural tears on the surface of your eye for longer, which then:
- improves lubrication and reduces tear evaporation symptoms
- improves tear film stability
- soothes discomfort from dry eye symptoms
- improves day to day comfort and quality of vision

What to expect
The Lacrifill treatment is a painfree and relatively quick procedure that is performed in clinic with no down time, so you will be able to drive home afterwards.
- We will make sure you are comfortably reclined on our treatment chair before applying a numbing drop to the nasal corner of your eye.
- We will then assess your tear drainage system with sterile saline. This same procedure is used to remove Lacrifill gel if required.
- Lacrifill gel is gently inserted into the lower canaliculus and conforms to your unique anatomy with no sizing needed.
Who is Lacrifill for?
- Do you struggle to insert eyedrops regularly? Either because you find them tricky to administer, or because you just forget.
- Do you find lubricating eyedrops give limited, or only temporary, relief?
- Have you previously been fitted with punctum plugs and found them bothersome?
- Have you been told you need cataract surgery, or are electing for laser eye surgery? A healthy, optimised tear film prior to surgery can improve measurements and surgical outcomes.
- Are you struggling with dry eye symptoms following surgery?
- Are you a contact lens wearer who is finding that your wearing times are reduced, even after a change in lens material and/or design?
- Do you struggle with seasonal or environmental dryness?
You may be suitable for Lacrifill treatment if you have answered "yes" to any of the above questions. If you would like any further information, or to have a chat about the procedure, drop us a text or WhatsApp to 07561 596128 or fill in our contact form here. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible, and we would be delighted to help. Alternatively, if you are ready for a comprehensive assessment of your Dry Eye Disease book an appointment here
Here's what some of our client's have said about their Lacrifill treatment:
- Fay had a Lacrifill treatment as part of her training, and is delighted with the results. "I was a bit apprehensive, but it was totally painless and I immediately noticed how moist my eyes felt. I haven't had to use any lubricating drops since I had the treatment. I would definitely recommend!"
- Claire is very happy to share her experience. "Prior to Lacrifill I was using multiple drops per day but it's more in the hope of getting some relief than actually getting help from them. I have all the kit to help myself at home, but do I use the heat mask? Do I do the blinking exercises? Change my diet? No! Take supplements? Only when I remember. I'm too shattered to do anything on an evening other than go to bed after watching some rubbish tv! Anything that requires effort is a no... Since Lacrifill I forget to use the drops as my eyes are that much better. The change has been unbelievable."
- Ben had a Lacrifill after his initial assessment and immediately noticed a difference. He too has been able to reduce his reliance on drops and is finding his eyes are much more comfortable on a daily basis.
